Opal
Description:
Opal, the birthstone for the month of October, is a hardened silica gel and usually contains 5 to 10 percent water in submicroscopic pores. It is amazing to see the wide variety of Opal available. At Hands of Spirit Gallery we have all types of Opal including many “potch” Opals which are opaque, Fire Opals, and beautiful Boulder Opals in many different sizes and shapes. Opals in our Gallery come mostly from Australia, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, and the United States.
The mineraloid Opal is amorphous SiO2•nH2O, hydrated silicon dioxide. It generally has a Mohs hardness of 5-6.
Metaphysical:
Opal holds the mysteries of color, light, and vibrations. It assists one in feeling the creativity within, which may manifest as delight, joy, and playfulness. This energy provides inspiration and imagination to all circumstances. Its changing play of color reflects the illusory nature of the physical world, while stabilizing one in the moment.
