Kyanite
Description:
One of the most popular minerals that we carry at Hands of Spirit Gallery is Kyanite. Kyanite, an aluminum silicate, use to be called Disthene (meaning “two strengths”), because on one axis it rates a 4.5 and on the other a 6.0 on the Mohs hardness scale. Among the localities available at our Gallery are the blue variety from Brazil and India, green and black also from Brazil.
Kyanite has a chemical formula of Al2SiO5 and a Mohs hardness of 4.5-5 parallel to one axis
6.5-7 perpendicular to that axis.
